Heavy flooding has cut off the main road linking Manso Akwasiso to Manso Nkran in the Amansie South District, leaving passengers and drivers stranded for nearly a week.

The situation occurred after rivers overflowed and submerged parts of the road, disrupting the movement of people and goods within the area.

To restore access, the Amansie South District Assembly, with support from Asanko Gold Ghana Limited, has started rehabilitation works on the affected stretch.

The exercise involves reshaping the road and rock-filling damaged sections to make the route accessible again.

The General Manager of Asanko Gold Mines, Justice Fenteng, said the rock-filling works on the Akwasiso–Koniase Nkran route and the Manso Abiram section are expected to be completed within 10 to 14 days.

The District Chief Executive for Amansie South, Benjamin Marfo, who inspected the project with Assembly officials and security personnel, commended Asanko Gold Mines for its quick intervention.

He said restoring the road will improve transportation, support trade and boost economic activities in affected communities.

The Presiding Member for the District, Peter Awere, also expressed appreciation to Asanko Gold Mines for partnering with the Assembly to address the challenge.

He said the intervention will bring relief to residents and road users who have been affected by the flooding.
