The Ghana Police Service has arrested 24 suspects during a major intelligence-led operation targeting suspected criminal activities in several communities across the Ashanti Region.
The operation, conducted by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, focused on suspected drug peddlers, criminal hideouts, and other individuals believed to be engaged in unlawful activities.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters on July 2, 2026, the exercise covered the communities of Kodie, Apagya, Dechemso, Old Tafo Ahenbronum, Ahodwo, and Abofour.
A total of 24 suspects, comprising 21 males and three females, were arrested during the operation.
Police also recovered several exhibits, including a pump-action shotgun with ammunition, seven RED-STAR AAA cartridges, an unregistered Toyota Highlander, an unregistered Toyota Camry, a Mercedes-Benz saloon car, an unregistered motorcycle, and a fireproof high-security safe.
The operation further led to the retrieval of 489 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, parcels of suspected narcotic substances, and 230 tablets of Tramadol, made up of 90 tablets of 225mg and 140 tablets of 250mg. Officers also seized 11 Royal 225mg tablets, 38 narcotics processing materials, bottles of Femude drink and locally made toffees suspected to be laced with narcotic substances.
Other items recovered included a Dell laptop, two LED television sets, three boxes of African Viagra, 52 lighters, 12 crushers, quantities of ash residue believed to be linked to narcotics use, and various sums of cash suspected to be proceeds from the sale of illegal drugs.
The Ghana Police Service stated that all the suspects are currently in custody, assisting with investigations, while the recovered exhibits have been retained as evidence.
Police indicated that any suspect found culpable will be arraigned before the courts upon the completion of the investigations.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at combating drug trafficking, violent crime, and other forms of criminal activity.
It also appealed to the public to continue supporting law enforcement by providing credible information through the nearest police station or designated emergency channels.
