The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has disclosed that 12 people have been confirmed dead, while seven others remain missing following the devastating floods that swept through parts of Greater Accra and other areas after torrential rains on Monday.
Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the Minister revealed that the disaster affected 7,761 households, with 3,882 individuals directly impacted by the flooding.
According to him, search, rescue, and recovery operations are still underway in the worst-hit communities as emergency response teams continue efforts to locate those reported missing and assist affected residents.
“As of this morning, seven persons are still missing. I have been at the Finance Committee for the past three hours, and I do not know whether many more have been found, but as of this morning, it is still seven, and 12 people are dead,” the Minister told Parliament.
The heavy rainfall, described by authorities as one of the most intense to hit Accra in recent years, inundated several communities, including Alajo, Adabraka, Circle, Kaneshie, Weija, Tse Addo, Ofankor, Pantang, Ashongman Estates, and parts of the Tema Metropolis.
The floods submerged homes and businesses, damaged public infrastructure, disrupted transportation services, stranded hundreds of motorists, and forced many residents to evacuate their homes.
The government, through the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service, and other emergency agencies, continues to coordinate rescue, relief, and recovery efforts in affected communities while assessing the full extent of the damage.
