The Acting Director General of Public Affairs Unit at the Ghana Police Service (GPS), ACP Kwesi OFori has said the police are going to pursue armed robbers in the country until robbery is reduced to its barest minimum.

He noticed a rise in armed robbery cases, pointing day light robbery as a trend.

Speaking with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie, ACP Kwesi OFori urged the public to help the police with information in order to deal with armed robbers.

“We are keen on tackling daylight robberies and by doing so, we have deployed a lot of officers in Accra and Tema to fight the menace. When you go out, you will see the patrol teams patrolling. We are appealing to the public to give us information, so that we can deal with robbers using motorbikes to rob people and hitting them,” he said.

He continued ,”We have seen some of them, we have seen what they are doing and very soon we will arrest them. The public has to help us because they are all living with people in their houses.”

For those who are using sophisticated weapons, ACP Kwesi OFori said the Police has put in place measures to contain them, capture and arrest them to face full rigours of the law.

He also said technology was really helping in their electronic surveillance, adding that they will continue using it.

In other news: Two robbers shot dead; arms supplier arrested

The Ghana Police on Saturday, September 25, 2021, were forced to shoot two suspected armed robbers who later died on admission at the hospital.

The suspects were Joseph Dagodzo, and Mujahid Abubakar, alias Sule.

Aside that, a 65-year-old suspected illegal arms dealer, Bukari Salifu, was also arrested at Zenu near Ashaiman.

According to the Police, the deceased suspects were arrested when they attempted to rob motorists along the Koluedor – Sege on the Accra main road.

During interrogation, the police said the suspects mentioned Bukari Salifu as the one who provides them with weapons for their robbery expeditions.

“Under the pretext of aiding the Police to retrieve some weapons and assist in arresting their other accomplices, who had escaped from the scene, the two deceased suspects led the crime-combat Police team to the purported hideout of their accomplices in a bush near Zenu. There, the Police came under fire as the suspects attempted to escape. This was a highly trained crime-combat team and the officers returned fire. The suspect armed robbers were shot in the process and were rushed to the Police Hospital where they died,” the Police stated.

Meanwhile, it noted that their bodies have been deposited at the Police Morgue.

The police added that, “Police intelligence led to the arrest of Bukari Salifu, their said financier and supplier of weapons.”
